Soulpreneurship: The Best Resources to Build Your Wellness Practice (Part 1!)

As a soulpreneur, your work demands a delicate balance between your calling to heal the world and the practical need to support yourself and sometimes your family. To truly flourish in your practice and bring as much light to the world as possible, you need more than just your healing skills and compassion. You also need a solid business foundation.

In this two-part series, we’re covering everything you need to know to build a thriving wellness practice so that you can keep the lights on while bringing your unique light to the world. In part one, we’ll cover the essentials of how to establish your vibe and start telling your story to the world.

Brand: Creating Your Vibe

Your brand is your first chance to make an impression on potential clients, so developing a consistent and authentic brand is key to helping people understand who you are and what you do so they can decide if your practice is right for them.

Consistency is crucial to a strong brand presence. Choose a palette of colors that reflect your personality, your practice, and how you want clients to feel about your services. For example, red and yellow are often associated with hunger (have you seen basically any fast food chain’s logo?); blue invokes peace and calm; green and brown help people feel connected to the earth; and purple and metallics suggest luxury and royalty.

If design isn’t your forte, there are tons of simple, often free resources available online to help you establish your brand presence. For example, Canva is a valuable tool for creating clean, aesthetically pleasing graphics without advanced design skills. We’re not sponsored by Canva (though that would be amazing—call us, Canva!), but we love its customizable templates for everything from social media posts to business cards, making it easy to get a cohesive look across all your materials.

Website: Your Digital Home

Your website serves as your virtual office, welcoming potential clients and providing them with essential information about your services. And if you want these folks to become actual clients, your site has to communicate professionalism, reliability, consistency, and trust.

Just like with brand development, web design does not come naturally to all of us, and building one from scratch is a nightmare for anyone without years of experience. But don’t be discouraged! Website templates have come a long way since the Angelfire and Geocities blogs of the early aughts, and now you can essentially drag and drop your photos, logos, and colors into ready-made templates on a number of web design platforms.

We like Squarespace and Wix for their intuitive user experience and beautiful templates. Squarespace is known for sleek, modern designs and responsive customer support, making it a favorite among beginners in web design. If you want more flexibility to customize, Wix offers that with its drag-and-drop editor. Both platforms have plenty of SEO tools and analytics to help your site get more traffic, and both work great with mobile so your site functions cleanly whether visitors are on their computer or their phone.

Marketing: Getting the Word Out

Building a brand and a website are important, but they won’t carry you very far if no one has ever heard of you. To get the word out, you need a marketing plan that casts a wide net in good seas.

The best marketing for your practice is happy clients. People trust their friends, so word of mouth is incredibly powerful. Encourage clients to refer friends and family by offering incentives like discounts on future sessions or complimentary services. A well structured referral program brings in new clients and rewards your existing ones, fostering community and making it more likely those clients will come to you again.

To reach a wider audience, engage social media. For all its warts, socials like Instagram and Facebook are probably the easiest ways to get your brand in front of more people. Just remember not to constantly be selling, or followers will lose interest. Share valuable content that showcases your expertise, such as wellness tips, client testimonials, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of your practice.

Socials will also allow you to engage with your audience, answer questions, and build relationships. And the more consistent you are, the happier the algorithms get, and the more visibility you’ll gain in return.
